Bates College Basketball Camp

Bates College Summer Basketball Camp will take place Monday through Thursday, June 24-27 from 9 am – 4 pm. Camp is for boys and girls entering grades 1-8. 


The Bates College Basketball Camp is designed to develop fundamental basketball skills for the appropriate age levels. Participants will be divided by age and skill level.  Specific emphasis is placed on teaching offensive and defensive techniques and strategy and having FUN.  Both individual and group instruction will be emphasized.  Daily activities will include full court game competition, skill development stations, lectures, demonstrations, contests ...

11th Annual Northern New England Home Garden Flower Show, chosen as one of the Top Twenty events in Maine by Yankee Magazine! The home, garden, flower show fills seven buildings with over 300 booths. Businesses showcasing home, energy and garden related products plus an additional five acres of outdoor garden related displays, garden centers selling zone hardy perennials, annuals, vegetable seedlings. Garden artists, guest speakers and the famous Meet the Chefs Cooking Series. Kids activities, fair food, artist demonstrations and more.

Friday, May 17 through Saturday, May 18 - Freeport: Geeky Variety Show

A very “geeky” edition of The Early Evening Show! The show will feature performances by Mike Miclon's alter-geeky-ego Dickie Hyper-Hynie as well as robots, juggling, nerdy trivia and a special appearances by the high-tech comedy group, AudioBody and the off-beat magician Wally Wiggins AKA Leland Faulkner. The Early Evening Show has been described as a cross between Saturday Night Live and classic Johnny Carson and is a blend of wild improvisations, prizes, comic sketches, upbeat music and spectacular finales. Every show is unique and you never know what's going to happen next!

Saturday, May 18 - Poland: YMCA Camp Connor Clean Up Day

Make it a family bonding day or a workplace togetherness day. Reinforce the concepts of volunteerism and community service to your children while doing some much needed cleanup. As an expression of their gratitude, the YMCA will host a free cookout at noon for family volunteers. Various work projects available. Work assignments can be tailored to match abilities.

Saturday, May 18 through Sunday, May 19 - Gray: Sons of Norway at Maine Wildlife Park

Join a local organization known as the Sons of Norway to learn about Scandinavian countries and the wildlife & conservation practices that are very similar to Maine’s. Come & learn about Scandinavian culture from folks in full native dress & see demonstrations of traditional activities like carving, rosemaling, weaving & Viking life. Sample delicious Scandinavian foods like polser, in lompe, lefse & krumbkaka (you’ll have to come to the park to see what these actually are!). There will be many ‘make & take’ activities for children & adults, like building Troll, or ‘nisse’ houses!

Changing school climate to prevent bullying, gender-based violence and harassment is on the minds of parents, administrators, school counselors and teachers across the country. Boys to Men trains student leaders to stop violence and harassment using its evidence-based bystander intervention program. Spend a day with master trainer, Boys to Men Executive Director Drew Wing, learning the essential elements of creating successful bystander intervention programs at your school.

The Freeport Theater of Awesome will feature The Yo-Yo People, a world record holding husband and wife duo. They will also be teaching a yo-yo workshop following the performance for a small additional fee. John and Rebecca Higby have performed their unique high energy comedy yo-yo, hula hoop, and unicycle show in 26 countries. Some of their finely tuned skills include performances with yo-yos attached to bouncy balls, yo-yos with 10 foot strings, and multiple yo-yos looping while hula hooping and unicycling all at the same time! Their high skill and deft timing coupled with high energy and sarcastic humor make the Yo-Yo People a favorite for every age.

Sunday, May 26 - Lewiston: Opening Day Lewiston Summer Farmers' Market

Family friendly activities for the day include live music, a memorial day raffle and an arts and activity. Tables and chairs will be available for visitors to sit and enjoy good food and good company. Visitors to the market can expect to shop with almost 30 new and returning vendors selling farm fresh vegetables, seasonal fruit, grass fed beef, chicken, lamb, pork, rabbit, artisan cheese and dairy, homemade baked goods, live lobster and seafood, maple products, fresh cut flowers, perennial plants, handcrafted soap, mushroom kits, local art and craft and much more!

I saw this awesome idea on Pinterest and it inspired me to try my own take on it! My kids love it and it was so easy and fun to make! 

Supplies:  
Hair gel (cheap stuff from the a dollar store)
Glitter
Duct tape
Cardboard
Clear plastic bag


Step 1: Measure approximately 5-6 ounces of hair gel and mix in as much glitter as you want!
